SUVs

The suburban vehicle (SUV) is a multi-purpose vehicle meant to appeal to a variety of different lifestyles. These cars are larger, may come with 4-wheel drive and have plenty of seating or storage space for supplies. SUVs are perfect for a weekend camping or for a long road trip with the family because you will have plenty of space and don't have to worry about the kids in the back sharing a seat with sleeping bags or with them complaining that their sibling is sitting too close to them.

The possible downsides to the suburban vehicle are firstly in the price - most SUVs cost between $20,000 to $50,000, which puts them beyond the range of many budgets. In addition, SUVs are among the worst vehicles when it comes to gas mileage, some of them bringing in around 10MPG, which makes them inconvenient for the daily commute and only economically feasible on a regular basis if you commute.

Sedans

A sedan is a traditional 4-door family vehicle that is meant to appeal to parents or those who have a taste for luxury. Ranging from the expensive and stylish BMWs and Mercedes class vehicles, to the smaller, economical Hyundai, the sedan has as much versatility as an SUV and can be tailored to suit any individual or family need. With a wide range of gas mileage, some sedans are very economical to drive or even for the daily commute if needed. With seating for up to 4 passengers, they make great traditional family cars, or if you want comfort and style there is a wide range of higher-end cars that come with all of the expensive, good-looking and comfort features that technology provides for. Another advantage to sedans, is that they often incorporate the latest in safety features available on all cars, including advanced braking systems, airbags, and intelligent steering.

The possible downsides to the sedan is that though they are roomy for traditional travel around town, you may find yourself limited in space for carrying luggage when going out of town on vacation.

Compacts

A compact is a smaller car, usually a 2 door, which, while lacking in a good deal of room, comes at a great little price and is often the perfect starter vehicle for young, teenage drivers or for someone to use in their daily commute. Some compacts can come with quite a bit of comfort features including leather seating, a powerful stereo system, and great safety features. Compact cars can be used by small families as a get around vehicle, especially if you are on a tight budget, since these will tend to be the least expensive vehicles on the market.

Sports Cars

Corvettes, Alfa Romeos, Lamborghinis and even the famed Ferrari fit into this class of car and they are rarely seen driving the streets for one key reason: their extreme price tag. Another reason you are less likely to see a sports car is that when it comes to passenger space, they are even smaller than a compact, allowing room for only one passenger to ride with the driver instead of three.

The primary selling feature of a sports car is beauty, grace and power. Boasting abilities like '0 to 60 in 3.4 seconds' and a top cruising speed of nearly 200 MPH or more, sports cars have a power that is rarely used by their owners because they don't want to end up in jail for criminal reckless driving. If you want status and prestige, there is no better type of car to buy than a sports car. If you have a family or a daily commute, however, you will want to own an alternative vehicle first.
